“Development is more than just asking for money. Development is all about sharing the vision God has for Veritas, igniting a passion in the hearts of others and creating opportunities for those individuals to help fulfill that vision. This can only be accomplished through faith…”

The Vision of the Past
Veritas opened in the fall of 1997 with 58 students, four teachers, an off-site administrator, four classrooms in the basement of a local church, one answering machine, a donated one-sheet-per-minute tabletop copier, and a Board of Governors comprised of seven parents. Those seven parents had earnestly been praying for more than a year that God would enable them to bring the gift of classical Christian education to the Newberg community.

The Vision of the Present
The school’s amazing growth (we’re now at 214 students and 39 staff) and academic success (our SAT scores place us in the top 13% in the nation) over the past eighteen years have only served to affirm that God has great plans for Veritas. Since the beginning, our school has been blessed by the tremendous generosity of our families and others who have a passion for Christ and who understand the importance of a classical Christian education. We are so grateful to those who have laid the foundation of Veritas, and to those individuals who continue to nurture our school for the betterment of the next generation of Christian leaders.

The Vision of the Future
In order to complete the Veritas vision and expand our programs in the future, Veritas needs to have a permanent campus of its own. Toward this end, Phase I of a school capital campaign was launched in 2005 and over $1 million was raised! With that money, we paid for the five acres of land for our new school in the foothills of Newberg’s Chehalem Mountain, and have access to the eleven adjoining acres for our athletic fields.  The Veritas Board finalized a strategic plan that identifies the best way to relocate Veritas to this new property. In 2012, Phase II – A Time To Build capital campaign was launched with the objective of raising $3.1 million to provide new facilities for the current student body and exciting options for expansion for future generations.

It’s exciting to speak with people about the future and our Veritas mission that focuses on cultivating “wisdom, virtue and godliness” in our most important treasure – the lives of our students. I consider it an honor to be a part of the plan.
